Watch it. Hear it. See it. Go do it.

Brown's Basketball Teaching System (BBTS) teaches basketball skill and the habits underneath it — attention, choice, recovery — at the same time, in the same drill.

What BBTS actually is

Not a curriculum bolted onto basketball practice. The basketball practice itself is the classroom.

The gym is the classroom. Basketball supplies the pressure, the mistakes, and the feedback. BBTS supplies the framework for learning from them.

Real skill development

Dribbling, passing, footwork, shooting — taught through named drills with consistent cue language, not vague general instruction.

A second, quieter curriculum

Attention, noticing, choice, and recovery after a mistake — taught through basketball moments already happening, not a separate lesson.

No shame, no comparison

Progress is tracked by what a coach actually observes a child do — never by a label about who that child is.

The BBTS Skill Ladder

Four levels, each building on the one before it. A child can point to exactly where they are.

Ball control foundations

Stationary dribbling, ball protection, receiving, jump stop.

Movement and exchange

Moving dribble, chest pass, bounce pass, pivoting.

Attack and defend

Hopscotch Layup footwork, defensive stance and slide.

Finishing skills

Full layup, shooting release, rebounding.

Who this is for

The current program is built for ages 7–9, run in small groups over an eight-week cycle, one session a week.

"What was your body's clue tonight?" — one of the questions parents get to ask on the ride home. No coaching from the sideline required.
